About the Society of the Sacred Heart
Society of the Sacred Heart, United States-Canada, is part of an international congregation of Catholic women religious. Founded in 1800 by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, the Society of the Sacred Heart has more than 2,200 members in provinces in 41 countries. Members of the Society are known as Religious of the Sacred Heart - or RSCJ, and participate in the mission of the Catholic Church through the service of education.

Religious of the Sacred Heart in the United States-Canada Province (USC), include teachers, administrators, lawyers, nurses, doctors, artists, writers, therapists, pastoral counselors, spiritual directors, and social workers. Members can be found in a wide variety of ministries and settings, including universities, secondary and elementary schools and popular education centers; in hospitals, shelters, parishes, retreat centers, and prisons.

About the Position
The Finance Department of the Society of the Sacred Heart is an integral office of the congregation supporting the women religious individually as well as the entirety of the Province.

The Controller reports to the Director of Finance and directs the Accountant and daily activities of the Finance Department, including payroll and financial aspects of Human Resources.

The Controller’s primary responsibilities include supporting the Director of Finance in all Finance functions including enforcing Finance Department policies and procedures, maintaining the chart of accounts and accounting systems, ensuring all transactions and reconciliations are reviewed and reports are generated timely and accurately. The responsibilities also include specifically:

A. Oversee the accounting of eldercare facility: Oakwood Community
B. Coordinate with the Director of Finance the annual audit
C. Manage the accounting systems and processes
D. Review all accounts payable
E. Review all cash transactions
F. Prepare and process journal entries
G. Reconcile bank statements, investments and general ledger
H. Manage cash flow positions
I. Support the function of preparing income tax returns
J. Take the lead on problem solving to support pay roll and other accounting functions
K. Process payroll
L. Be proactive in recognizing and implementing efficiencies
M. Ensure timely processing of new hires, promotions or other staffing changes throughout the Province

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in finance and payroll and will have worked for a religious congregation or a religious non-profit. Other qualifications required include:

1. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance preferred
2. Knowledge of payroll and accounting practices and principles
3. Knowledge of accounting and payroll software (MIP preferred) or able to learn quickly
4. A self-starter who understands and demonstrates problem-solving tools and approaches
5. A team player
6. Strong verbal written and communication skills
7. Polished and professional presence
8. A strong work ethic and has the ability to honor confidential information
