Carlota Duarte, RSCJ Exhibits Photos of Daily Life in Chiapas

Artist Carlota Duarte, RSCJ founded the Chiapas Photography Project (CPP) in 1992 to give indigenous Mayan people opportunities for cultural and artistic self-expression through photography. Some of those images are now on display at the Walters Cultural Art Center in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Sister Ruth Dowd will not be at Manhattanville College this year for the first time in more than 60 years. Sister Dowd not only taught at the university, she was instrumental in starting the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and a Masters of Arts and Writing program. She is in the news here.

Sister Mary “Be” Mardel, Founder of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, Honored at Annual Benefit

Religious of the Sacred Heart Mary “Be” Mardel was honored recently at the annual benefit luncheon for St. Madeleine Sophie's Center’s in El Cajon, California. Sister Mardell founded the Center for children with disabilities in 1965. It is now a non-denominational program helping nearly 400 people with developmental disabilities each year.

Nuns' Build New Orleans, November 12 – 18, 2011

Women religious from a variety of congregations will join friends and family in New Orleans to work with the St. Bernard Project (www.stbernardproject.org) helping low-income or elderly residents to rebuild homes still devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The Society of the Sacred Heart vocations ministry sponsored a hiking retreat in the Black Hills of South Dakota last month. Seven women formed a prayerful community centered on discerning God’s presence in nature.

We Celebrate 40 Years of Oakwood

On Sunday, July 24th, 2011, we celebrated Oakwood's 40th birthday. The 9:30 AM Liturgy, beautifully prepared and orchestrated by Ann Smith, RSCJ and celebrated by our dear friend, Archbishop John R. Quinn, was attended by an overflowing crowd of enthusiastic friends, young and old.
