Nature of the Collaboration
Membership in the Network provides each school with opportunities for collaboration. The Network and its members seek to share their work and to collaborate whenever possible with other educational organizations as well as with other works within the Society of the Sacred Heart.
Purpose and Activities
A national association, the Network of Sacred Heart Schools has 19 full and 2 provisional member schools who are independent but historically related and who share a commitment to the vision expressed nearly 200 years ago by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart. In the Goals and Criteria of 1990, the document that defines the vision of Sacred Heart education in the United States today, Sacred Heart educators commit themselves to educate to:
- a personal and active faith in God
- a deep respect for intellectual values
- a social awareness that impels to action
- the building of community as a Christian value
- personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom
Through its members, the Network serves students in grades Pre-Kindergarten - 12, faculty, staff and other members of its community by providing services and programs, including trustee education, student summer service opportunities and national conferences and workshops for faculty and staff on educational and professional topics. Some rscj directly involved are: Madeleine Sophie Ortman, Executive Director, Carol Haggarty, RSCJ, Assistant Executive Director.
