Traditionally, Jubilees for women religious were celebrated on the 25th and 50th anniversaries of first vows. (The Society of the Sacred Heart, until 2004, celebrated anniversaries of final vows.) Jubilee celebrations are intended to honor and renew the perpetual vows originally taken - and they also provide an opportunity to renew community friendships.
The Society of the Sacred Heart celebrates Jubilees at 70 and 80 years as well as the other anniversaries, and in 2010, RSCJ Jubilarian celebrations were held all around the country in a variety of settings.
- On February 16, 2010, Rose Chen, Patricia Desmond, Mary Lou Gillory, Margaret Mary Miller, and Mary Genevieve Smyth celebrated fifty years of profession at the morning Mass at Oakwood.

Nine of the other current 50-year Jubilarians celebrated at a weekend get-together in late May at the Shrine of St. Philippine in St. Charles, Missouri; and they also made a pilgrimage to the shrine at Sugar Creek Kansas. “It was a special tribute to our pioneering saint as well as a way to literally walk in her footsteps and renew our own commitment to the mission of the Society,” said Virginia Dennehy, one of the organizers. In addition to Sister Dennehy, RSCJ who made that journey were: Margherita Cappelli, Constance Dryden, Mary-Jane Ferrier, Gail O'Donnell, Irma Patricia Reiss, Virginia Rodee, Margaret Seitz, and Patricia Thro.
Other RSCJ celebrations around the U.S. this year included the following:
-
In an encore celebration, Margherita Cappelli and Gail O’Donnell marked their Golden Jubilees on the Feast of the Sacred Heart at Newton Country Day School.
-
On July 4, Rosemary Bearss, Lucy Hayes, Patricia Munch, and Marianna Torrano celebrated with a liturgy at the Cottage behind Villa Duchesne. They noted that fellow 50-year Jubilarians Hilda Carey, Martha Curry, Mary Wolf-Salin, and Annette Zipple were there in spirit!
-
On August 22, Kathleen Hughes, Barbara Moreau, and Carolyn Osiek informally celebrated their 40-year Jubilees with the St. Louis/St. Charles area at an evening prayer and dinner.
And in a geographically-determined Golden Jubilee gathering, Deanna von Bargen, RSCJ, was invited to celebrate along with women religious from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet - who happened to be celebrating their Jubilees in her hometown of Lewiston, Idaho. Their celebration was noted in an article in the Lewiston Tribune that focused on the influence of teachers who had led them to religious life.
