Sr. Mary Helen McComas, Multiple Medal-Winner |

Sr. McComas won gold medals in the 50-meter dash, the 10-kilometer
bicycling event, and for accuracy in throwing a softball and a
football. She won silver for the 100-meter dash, the 5-kilometer
bicycling event, the two-mile walk and for throwing distance with a
football and a softball. Her bronze medals were for shot put,
basketball free throw and “basketball around the world” — shooting
baskets from various positions on the court.
Sr. McComas credits her athletic ability to “growing up in between two
brothers,” and to her daily exercise, a 14-mile round-trip bicycle ride
to work. She works in the business office at Duchesne Academy of the
Sacred Heart in Houston.
Sr. McComas has worked in financial offices at several Sacred Heart
schools and, from 1989 to 1985, in the finance office at the Society’s
Motherhouse in Rome.
