A new website for the international Society of the Sacred Heart made its public debut on April 1, 2004. The new site, www.rscjinternational.org,
a project two years in the making, reflects the breadth of the
Society’s ministries as it carries out its mission in 45 countries
around the globe. Contents will be available in three languages:
English, French and Spanish.
The Society’s General Council
in Rome has appointed Lolín Menéndez, RSCJ, of the U.S. Province, to
serve as web weaver, and each of the Society’s 33 provinces has
appointed a person to gather material for the site.
The
wish for an international website emerged at the Society’s General
Chapter 2000, where delegates urged putting technology at the service
of the Society’s mission.
“As a congregation we seek to
reflect through rscjinternational.org who we are as Society of the
Sacred Heart, what we are about, what gives us life, and how our
commitment takes flesh in mission,” Sister Menéndez said. “We also want
to make known our history, our current commitments, something about the
deep faith and social values integral to our life. We want to do this
by sharing the story of our life and relationships and the different
faces of our mission in various parts of the globe.
“We
want to invite those who visit the site to share our faith,
spirituality and commitment, and, to explore ways of initiating and/or
strengthening this relationship by vocation, partnership and
association,” she said. “We seek to engage and to link people across
all kinds of boundaries, and thus aim to provide a space where
connections and exchanges can take place.”
Sister Menéndez
is fluent in the three languages. She has worked closely for the past
seven months with the design and technical staff at the
Society-sponsored Center for Educational Design and Communication in
Washington D.C. and with RSCJ advisors.
