Kathleen Hughes, rscj, speaking
at an award ceremony to honor her contributions to Catholic liturgy,
cited problems in contemporary liturgical celebrations from her point
of view. Sister Hughes, former professor at Catholic Theological Union
in Chicago and longtime member of the ICEL advisory council
(International Commission on English in the Liturgy), received the
Frederick R. McManus Award in Atlanta on October 15 from the Federation
of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. The award has been given annually
since 1995. Sister Hughes is provincial of the U.S. Province of the
Society of the Sacred Heart. Her talk begins with thanks to each of the
previous recipients for what they taught her.
