Sister
Shirley Miller, rscj, headmistress of Sacred Heart schools for 25 years
in Omaha, Neb., and New Orleans, La., has been appointed director of
mission advancement for the United States Province of her religious
order, the Society of the Sacred Heart.
She will be based in St. Louis at the national headquarters of the Society, 4100 Forest Park Avenue, Suite A
In
her new position, Sr. Miller will promote the educational mission of
the Society of the Sacred Heart and invite participation and support
from its constituencies, which include more than 4,000 alumnae and
alumni who live in the St. Louis area. Her responsibilities will
include development and fundraising.
Regarding her new
role, Sister Miller said, “This is a great time for all of us who love
the Society to come together to clarify the mission of the Society in
today’s post 9-11 world, to become better aware of the ways in which
the ministries of RSCJ are responding to the needs of the world
according to the vision of Saint Madeleine Sophie and to gain a clearer
understanding of the resources we need to carry that work forward.”
Sister
Miller served as head of school at Duchesne Academy, Omaha, Nebraska
for 11 years, from 1978-1989, and as head of school at Academy of the
Sacred Heart in New Orleans, Louisiana (“The Rosary”) from 1989-2003.
A
native of Iowa, she is a graduate of Duchesne College in Omaha, has
been a member of the Society for 38 years. She holds a master’s degree
in religious studies from the University of St. Thomas in Houston and a
master’s degree in educational administration from the University of
Notre Dame.
