Philippine in Bronze - Again PDF Print E-mail

Duchesne statue
This model by sculptor Harry Weber for a bronze statue of St. Philippine Duchesne will be created in bronze and placed at the Academy of the Sacred Heart.
The City of St. Charles, Missouri, has chosen a sculptor to make a bronze statue of pioneer educator St. Rose Philippine Duchesne as part of its series of statues of historic figures. The statue will be one and a half times life size and be placed on the grounds of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in St. Charles.

The first statue in the series was of frontiersman Daniel Boone. Philippine will be the second. The winning design is by Missouri sculptor Harry Weber, who also created the Daniel Boone statue, as well as statues of baseball players that appear outside Busch Stadium in St. Louis and statues of other sports figures in eight other professional and college stadiums. Late last year, a bronze bust of Philippine was placed in the Missouri State Capitol, in the Hall of Famous Missourians. That statue was created by artist Sabra Tull Meyer and commissioned by U.S. attorney Catherine Hanaway, former speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives.
