A recent article in Greenwich Time noted that New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka and his mother, Deodata Naalima, a native of Uganda, participated in Convent of the Sacred Heart's special Africa Day 2009. The article also noted that thousands of dollars have been raised by over twenty Sacred Heart schools over the years to help build Sacred Heart Primary School in Masaka, Uganda. The school in Uganda is operated by the Society of the Sacred Heart.

CSH Greenwich alumna Claire Lorentzen is exhibiting her artwork in the show, “Hearts that Hold Nothing Back: the Religious of the Sacred Heart in Kenya and Uganda," in the Sister Cora E. McLaughlin Art Gallery at Convent of the Sacred Heart. The show, which opened in February, continues through April 16.

Ms. Lorentzen received a grant in the summer of 2008 from Stanford University to photograph the work of the Religious of Sacred Heart throughout Uganda and Kenya. She visited 11 different convents and communities of which four were schools and the others served missions in HIV/AIDS, pastoral work, prisons, women, peacemaking and health care.

Joan Magnetti, RSCJ, Headmistress of Convent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich, was awarded the 2009 Chief Executive Leadership Award in District 1 of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Each year, CASE District I recognizes outstanding individual contributions to education through volunteer leadership and professional achievement.

Carolyn Osiek, RSCJ, was recently honored at a reception hosted by Brite Divinity School during the annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature. Lyn is retiring from Brite in the summer of 2009; Brite is affiliated with Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth, TX.

Paula Toner, RSCJ, has been re-named provincial of the U.S. Province of the Society of the Sacred Heart for a three-year term.

The Saint Madeleine Sophie's Center in San Diego has won some note for being selected as one of the top charities featured on the Oprah show.

Sprout Creek Farm, associated with the Society of the Sacred Heart, was featured for its outstanding quality on the front page of a recent edition of the Voice Ledger.

"Take a look through one large, glass window and visitors can see milk being churned into cheese or a wheel of savory Toussaint being rolled into the ripening room. Take a look through another window and a cow may very well stare straight back...."

On September 9, 2007, several RSCJ joined Juana Resto and her friends at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston for her Golden Jubilee Celebration.
