"As President Bush hustled through town Thursday morning, the proper
young ladies of the Academy of the Sacred Heart were in Jackson Square,
wearing life jackets over their plaid-skirt uniforms, and politely but
firmly demanding better levees."
So begins an article in the New York Times
on Friday, January 13, about a demonstration in New Orleans' French
Quarter by more than 200 students from Academy of the Sacred Heart
("the Rosary"). The students, some sporting masking tape on their
foreheads to indicate water lines during post-Katrina flooding, all
urging that the city be rebuilt and fortified with strong levees,
chanted, "Do what it takes, do what it takes."

takes note of the students' action. It carried the headline, "In New
Orleans, Bush Speaks with Optimism but Sees Little of Ruin." Click here for the article.
