Joan Magnetti, RSCJ, to receive Woman of Conscience Award PDF Print E-mail

Joan Magnetti, RSCJJoan Magnetti, RSCJ, headmistress of Convent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich, Connecticut, will receive the prestigious Woman of Conscience Award from the Associated Alumnae and Alumni of the Sacred Heart, an organization representing more than 51,000 women and men educated in Sacred Heart schools in the United States.

The award, given biennially since 1971, will be presented to Sister Magnetti at the next AASH conference, scheduled to be held in New York City in April.

Sister Magnetti holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Manhattanville College and a master’s degree in theological studies from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. She joined the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1965 and professed her final vows in 1975. She has devoted virtually all of her years in ministry to working as a teacher and administrator in Sacred Heart schools.

Sister Magnetti has been headmistress of the school in Greenwich since 1990. She previously served the school as curriculum coordinator and academic dean. She served as headmistress of Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Princeton, New Jersey, from 1977 to 1990.

Among her many contributions to formal education, Sister Magnetti is a former vice-president of the National Association of Principals or Schools for Girls.
