Summer Miracle at Thensted Center

This June, Thensted Center underwent a huge transformation. A group of 36 high school students and 11 chaperons (professional contractors, firemen, painters etc.) worked for a week in record heat, rain and humidity to transform our Center.

Update on Haiti

Although news reports note the huge amount of funds raised for Haiti, the Haitian people are still in need of basic supplies and living space, healthcare, and education. Two additional RSCJ from the US province have been sent there to attend to those needs. Suzanne Lasseigne, RSCJ, just returned to the states after a five-week stint in Haiti; and Diana Wall, recently professed, will serve there for the next two to three months. Sister Lasseigne said that her experience there was positive in that she was able to work with adults and educate them about nutrition, even demonstrating how to grow vegetables in a garden. She hopes to return in the future.

Death of Barbara Bowe, Religious of the Sacred Heart, Biblical Scholar and Professor

Barbara Bowe, RSCJ, Th.D., biblical scholar, respected professor and author, and beloved guide to the Holy Land, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Oakwood, the Society of the Sacred Heart health care facility in Atherton, California. Read more about Sr. Bowe and leave a reflection or memory.

Death of Anita Figueredo, MD

Manhattanville alumna Anita Figueredo, MD, died last week. In addition to a being a "friend of the poor, a healer for many and a pioneer in her field," she reared nine children, served as AASH president from 1959 to 1961, and was an active Associate in the San Diego area. Recent study directed by an RSCJ is noted by the Washington Times

The Washington Times noted a recent study by Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, directed by Patricia Murphy, RSCJ, a chaplain at Rush and an assistant professor of religion, health and human values, that indicates that in patients diagnosed with clinical depression, "belief in a concerned God can improve response to medical treatment."
