Eve Kavanagh, RSCJ, received the Woman of Spirit Award at an annual
event sponsored by two women’s organizations affiliated with Catholic
parishes in Larchmont, New York.
Sister Kavanagh is a registered nurse who serves with the
Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service in East Harlem,
New York, where she serves patients of all ages who live in poverty.
She also oversees the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults at St.
Stephen of Hungary parish in Manhattan and teaches Scripture in a
program operated by the Archdiocese of New York.
Sister Kavanagh emigrated from Ireland to the United States in 1960 and entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1962.
In 1975, she began a hospice program in Des Moines Iowa. It was one of the first such programs in the United States.
Sponsors
of the Woman of Spirit award are the St. Augustine’s Ladies Auxiliary
and the Sts. John and Paul Women’s Guild. The event was held October 20
in Larchmont.
