Carolyn
Osiek, rscj, received an award for “Outstanding Service in Mentoring”
at the Society of Biblical Literature, where she was also installed as
the organization's president for the coming year.
The Society of Biblical Literature, a 123-year-old organization of biblical scholars from the United States and Canada, has 6,000 members.
Sister Osiek was nominated by Terri Bednarz, who studied with Sister
Osiek at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and is now the doctoral
program at Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, where Sister Osiek is the Charles Fischer Catholic Professor of New Testament.
The nomination was based on Sister Osiek's ability to “foster
scholarship in her students,” for her “concern for the global community
… for her humor and playfulness … and for helping me [Terri Bednarz]
and many others to find our own voice.”
Related, from December 2003: Carolyn Osiek, rscj, named president-elect of the Society of Biblical Literature
