Diverse, international, faith-filled, dedicated to educational excellence… Those words may not have been listed on the agenda for the Society of the Sacred Heart’s recent Higher Education meeting in Chicago, but they describe the RSCJ involved in that particular ministry – and the quality of their work. The agenda for the two-day meeting was designed to examine how the five Goals and their accompanying Criteria (G&C), foundational documents for the Network of Sacred Heart schools, might be adapted for and applied to higher education by individual RSCJs and Associates. No small task. |

In this month of the Annunciation, here is an introduction to Re-Imagining Mary by the author, Mariann Burke, rscj. "Re-Imagining Mary is about meeting Mary in image and imagination. It is about the Mary image mirroring both an outer reality and the inner feminine soul. My first meeting with Mary began with an experience of Fra Angelico’s Annunciation (Cortona). I cannot account for my unusual response to the image except to say that, at the time, over twenty years ago, I was studying Jungian psychology in Zürich, Switzerland and was then probably more disposed to respond to the imaginal world. One day as I sat in my basement apartment reflecting on a picture of his Annunciation, energy seemed to surge through me and lift me above myself. Tears brought me to deep center." *To read more about Re-Imagining Mary, log on to www.fisherkingpress.com. |

William Schickel, whose passing we honored recently, was the designer of the Shrine of Philippine Duchesne in St. Charles Missouri. Perhaps even more importantly, he recognized Philippine in his cure from serious cancer as a young man with a wife and children. He painted his portrait of her which hung in his own living room for many years before anyone outside his family knew of it. He contributed his story to our Philippine "Collections" which was published at the time of her Canonization in 1988. Two former RSCJ purchased the painting itself as a gift to the Society. It is presently in St. Louis.
His telling of his story is attached, along with an image of the painting. He called his article: "This Blessed Woman."
