The Sacred Heart Spirituality Forum in Atherton, California July 10th-14th was a huge success. One of the highlights for the Healthy Waters and Coastal Restoration Group was a panel of RSCJ group members who presented one of the breakout sessions entitled Perspectives on Water: Hearing the Call to Integrity of Creation. The five RSCJ panelists were Mary McGann, Maria Cimperman, Sr. Anne Marie Conn, Eleanor MacClellan and Melanie Guste. Sister Guste also served as the moderator for the panel.
In this session, the five RSCJ shared different perspectives on the nature and reality of water in the world today, especially linking this reality to the spirituality of the Society of the Sacred Heart and the call to the "integrity of creation." The panelists addressed this very rich, complex and textured topic through the perspectives of theology, spirituality, and education including special attention to the sacramentality of water and its theological dimensions, the Pastoral Spiral framework, the new cosmology, the challenges of the Tar Sands and its impact on indigenous peoples. They called for networking around this important topic in the world for global impact. Videos from this discussion will be available on this site soon!
Approximately 35-40 people attended the workshop. Time was provided between each presentation for reflection and dialogue. We hope to have additional opportunities in the future to explore this important topic with global implications for our mission in the world today.
Thank you to each of the participants, especially the presenters whose passion and preparation were apparent.
