saizan03_th Sister Claire Saizan, retiring after 64 years as a Sacred Heart educator, is asking for a minimum of fuss.  “No credit is due,” she said in a telephone interview from her home in Grand Coteau, La. “It’s been a privilege.” Sister Saizan, 92, was recognized after a Mass May 23 at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau commemorating the Feast of St. Madeline Sophie.

rosenthal_thSr. Helen Rosenthal, rscj of Miami has developed a four-course program in the history of Christian spirituality, to begin Sept. 16, 2002. The Institute for Pastoral Ministries, Spirituality Center, at St. Thomas University in Miami will grant certificates to students who complete the program.

senbazuru_thEven without the gift of a metal cross, students at Stuart Country Day School in Princeton, N.J., are unlikely to ever forget September 11, 2001. But the cross, cut by rescue workers from an I-beam of the World Trade Center's North Tower, is a visceral reminder of both the terror that gripped the nation and its citizens' generous, often heroic, response.

Sr. Mary Helen McComas, Multiple Medal-Winner

Sr. Mary Helen McComas RSCJ won 12 medals in April — one for each event she entered in the Houston Senior Olympics. This was Sr. McComas’ first time to enter the competition, which is sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Houston. She competed in the 65-69 age group, taking four gold medals, five silver and three bronze.

Mary Frohlich Wins Award for New Course

Mary Frohlich, associate professor at Catholic Theological Union and a soon-to-be novice of the U.S. Province, has received a $10,000 award from the Templeton Foundation for her new course in the biological dimensions of human spirituality.
