The Conclusion of the Chapter
In this the final few days of the Chapter, the delegates have been meeting in "Centers of Interest," working groups, refining the earlier work of the chapter on contemplation, community, youth, dialogue/communication and justice, peace, integrity of creation. Chapter 2008: August 11 – Week 5
The Election of the Superior General
This past week the delegates have engaged in an election process,
characterized by confidentiality throughout, which consisted of
communal discernment, prayer, reflection, nomination and information
gathering concerning possible candidates. During the first round of
nomination, each delegate wrote as many names as she chose. Lists of
all named were circulated. During subsequent rounds, as some names were
eliminated, delegates wrote four, then two and finally one name. In
between each round there was time for personal prayer and reflection
and a period of information gathering, either in the home table groups
or, finally, in the general assembly. In addition to group
consultation, there was opportunity for one to one consultation.

Chapter 2008: August 4 – Week 4
Interculturality: The Diversity in Language and Culture
The Society of the Sacred Heart is a group of over 3000 religious women, of 46 nationalities, in nearly 500 communities in 43 countries. We usually call ourselves "Religious of the Sacred Heart" or "RSCJ" (the initials of the Society's name in French: "Religeuses du Sacre Coeur de Jesus.") The number of countries, 43, will tell you that we do not all speak the same language nor is the culture of our countries the same. The challenge of our internationality looms large.

Chapter 2008: July 21 – Week 2
Delegates to the Chapter
You may be asking, "Who attends a General Chapter?" The delegates are made up of ex-officio and elected members. The ex-officio members are: the superior general, members of the
central team, the secretary general, the treasurer general, the
provincials, the previous superior general and a member of the
international formation team. The number of elected members must exceed that of the ex-officio
members. Each province elects one member. Provinces having more than
200 members elect an additional delegate. In order to ensure participation of younger sisters, another delegate
will be elected in those provinces having 10 or more members under 51
years of age. Because of this, the United States has a third delegate.

Many of you have promised your support and prayer for the Provincial Assembly/ Chapter held in Chicago at the beginning of July. We are very grateful and have truly experienced the fruit of everyone’s prayer. Two hundred thirty RSCJs were gathered at Loyola University; we were able to “web- cast” live the general sessions to Kenwood and Oakwood where our sisters spent hours “with us” via this transmission on a big screen!
