From Saturday April 27th through Friday, May 1st, several Religious of the Sacred Heart, associates and friends made a meaningful, educational trip to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. They were participating in the Border Witness Experience, led by Ramona Casas and Eva Soto of ARISE, a resource center serving the immigrant population in Alamo, Texas.

In anticipation of the 150th anniversary of Saint Madeleine Sophie's death (May 25), the Province of Ireland and Scotland has created a lovely online journey with Sophie. Beginning Sunday, May 17th and continuing through her Feast on Monday, May 25th, each day has a special focus, allowing us to develop and savor a new relationship with our beloved Sophie.

This summer, Mary Forsyth will become president of the Associated Alumnae and Alumni of the Sacred Heart, following two years on the AASH executive committee. An alumna of the Convent of the Sacred Heart in El Cajon, she has taught in Sacred Heart schools, served on the National Development Board and otherwise made herself indispensable over the years. She recently agreed to answer a few questions from her friend Shirley Miller, RSCJ, about her commitment to the Society.

The United States - Canada Province is currently playing host to Superior General Kathleen Conan and General Council member Catherine Lloyd during an official visit. Sisters Conan and Lloyd will travel around the province over the course of about five weeks, making stops in St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri; San Francisco and Atherton, California; Grand Coteau and New Orleans, Louisiana; Boston, New York, Albany and Halifax. Every superior general must make an official visit to every one of the Society's 41 provinces during her eight-year term.

The Society of the Sacred Heart expresses its mission as “making known the love of God revealed in the heart of Jesus Christ.” In recent years that mission is also expressed through the lens of our commitment to pursue “justice, peace and the integrity of creation.” If only we could put this notion into what we call a “portmanteau word,” one that would emphasize the unity of these three notions all in one word, for that would speak to the unity of purpose our commitment leads us to.
