Lucy Hayes, RSCJ

Sister Lucy Hayes

Born on July 21, 1929 in Denison, Iowa, Lucille Hayes (Lucy) entered the Society of the Sacred Heart on July 6, 1951. She made her first vows on January 10, 1954 and her final profession on July 21, 1960.

Being called to the classroom, Sister Hayes spent her life teaching. Beginning at Duchesne Academy in Omaha in 1954, she taught at Barat Academy in Lake Forest, Illinois; Convent of the Sacred Heart (Sheridan Road) in Chicago, both the Convent of the Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s School in Menlo Park, California; and Stuart Hall in San Francisco. After twenty-three years of teaching, she became Liturgical Coordinator at Holy Family Church in San Jose, California in 1980.

Since 1983, she has been at Duchesne Academy in Omaha holding many positions, including family minister, receptionist, sacristan, portress, archives assistant and business office assistant.
