...The visit to Chad meant wearing yet another hat,
the hat of someone who comes for the first time and who meets new
persons, new scenes, new situations. I was very happy that Asunta, the
regional superior for Chad, made her way into the arrival area and
shepherded me through immigration and customs.

I joined the study trip to Israel with thirteen wonderful people,
sponsored by the American Israeli Friendship League, a friend said it
would break my heart. Indeed it did. This is the most intractable
heartbreaking conflict I have known. It is not a matter of right and
wrong – rather there are two rights and a tragedy.

Thirteen
women from ten different countries made their Final Profession as
Religious of the Sacred Heart on January 11, 2004. The ceremony took
place in Rome, in the chapel of the Villa Lante where St. Madeleine
Sophie lived many years and prayed long hours.

This is what the experience of three weeks in Korea has meant to me. It
was a moment to take off my shoes, to enter into the Korean way of
being at home, in slippers, leaving the “outside” shoes in a cupboard
in the hall.

When Sister
Mary Pat White and Sacred Heart Associate Kristi Laughlin left
California in mid-June for a post-9/11 journey to Afghanistan, they
wanted to bring to the people of that country a message of
reconciliation, peace and hope. "What
I found was a people who had incorporated reconciliation into the very
fiber of their hope for a healed, safe and prosperous Afghanistan,”
Sister White said in an interview after her return. “I met a people
working peacefully with a courage that outstrips anything I could ever
have conceived of."

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone
in a stream. The next day, she met another traveler who was hungry, and
the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler
saw the precious stone in the wise woman’s bag, admired it, and asked
the woman to give it to him. The wise woman did so without hesitation.
