class.jpgDear Sacred Heart Students and Supporters,

In 2002 when the first building of our primary school started to take shape there were some inquisitive village children visiting the site each day fascinated by what was happening.  Imagine now with 441 sets of eyes checking on the daily progress of the construction activity for the classroom block. By the Feast of Mater, thanks to the generosity of our faithful friends, we were a good way along towards our $500,000 construction goal. So it was thought best to break ground and begin construction and go as far as possible with the funds on hand- for the longer we wait the more expensive the project will be. Hopefully by February 2010 there will be an academic block for the fourteen classrooms and a much less congested dormitory area. The excitement and joy at our school would surely  warm your good hearts.

Some of you have asked what is next on our wish list for you like to target your fundraising for specific needs. After completing the academic building structure we will need a few more water tanks, some solar lighting, and pint sized furniture for our youngest. Also a food storage shelter for the produce we harvest and purchase when the price is best, another staff housing unit for the number of teachers expands as our student population increased, and a water filter system.  So I invite you to continue your partnership with us.  Your letters, good wishes, and creative ways to raise funds are all appreciated. You are making what seemed impossible possible for hundreds of materially poor girls. Imagine the impact their education will have on generations to come.

With never ending gratitude,
Irene Cullen, rscj

Past 2008 Graduates

...are now well settled in their respective high schools. For all of you who have helped them through SHPK don’t forget the gift you have made possible. It will keep on giving as these young women grow up and pass on the benefits of their education to their family.  The RIPPLE effect brings more hope in the future.

7th Class Message

We are so fortunate to have so many sisters in Sacred Heart Schools in United States of America.  We want to take this opportunity to thank you all for all the things you are doing for us in our Sacred Heart Primary School here in Kyamusansala. Without your help, we would not be here in Sacred Heart School. Our latest structure, a classroom block, has begun to arise before our eyes.  When a big bulldozer came to level the land we all watched in amazement how the bulldozer was digging up big rocks and uprooting trees and shrubs. It is nice to see the builders at work.

Although we cannot study in the new building as we are leaving school after our primary leaving examinations in November 2009, we are happy for all who will be using the new classrooms. We cannot thank you enough for all this to be possible. We are not finished as yet so we invite you to continue your partnership to complete the Sacred heart Primary School in Uganda.

Opening Day

This new 2009 school year found 441 girls at the front gate of Sacred Heart School. We had to hold back accepting more young ones because we are bulging at the seams until the academic building is completed.
