Duchesne Fund for Ministry (2010-2011)

As members of the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international congregation, we are committed to addressing the needs of those who suffer from injustice and inequity worldwide and especially in the United States. As our Constitutions state:“Wherever we are sent, whatever our work may be, our lives will be inspired by the love of the Heart of Jesus,…expressed in a thirst for working towards justice and peace in the world in response to the cry of the poor… (Constitutions §13). Members of the province serve the poor and marginalized in a variety of settings: institutions and outreach programs. In order to extend this service, we are establishing the Duchesne Fund for Ministry to support RSCJ and those who collaborate with us in the effort to bring about systemic change based on Gospel values of justice, integrity, peace, non-violence and a contemplative attitude. We join the global effort of reverence for creation and protection of the environment.

The province, and before 1982 the five provinces, had a history of identifying and funding worthy endeavors in favor of the disadvantaged. This new fund replaces the Fund for Ministry, created in 1984 by combining the Network Education Development Fund and the Passover Fund, and the Philippine Duchesne Fund, established in 1992 to implement the priorities of the province, expressed in An Act of Hope.

Nourishing the Spirit

For those who are aware of the life and work of Rose Philippine Duchesne, the two passions of her life are evident: her meeting in 1804 and lifelong friendship with Madeleine Sophie Barat, Foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart; and her early calling to serve the Native Americans in the fledgling country across the Atlantic from her native France.
